Watching Metallica play 'Enter Sandman' from Live Earth. (God bless TiVo.)
Please understand: This was my FAAAAVORITE band as an early teen. Listening to 'Creeping Death' or 'Trapped under Ice' still brings a tear to my eye. And let's not even talk about 'The Four Horsemen.'
The good news is they are still going at it like crazy. Great performance. Loved it.
The bad news is that somewhere along the way THEY GOT OLD!
Lars Ulrich's hairline is in heavy reverse. Kirk Hammett's isn't far behind. James Hetfield's beard is white! WHITE!
But wait! If they're old . . . and I've been a huge fan since they were young . . . does that mean . . . I'm . . . getting . . . old?
I'm now scrambling to find 'Welcome Home (Sanitarium)' in iTunes to drown out the reality of my impending battle against grey and disappearing hair.
(Note: Metallica's first album was 'Kill 'Em All.' Anyone know who the original guitarist and bassist were on that album? ANNNND does anyone know what Metallica WANTED to call the first album?)
Oh man I loved that concert! I was at home watching in HD and singing right along with them....reminded me of the good old "get pumped up for the football game" in West Texas as a High Schooler. heh.

Dave Mustaine of course! At one point in my life I knew what they were going to call the album, but in my own old age it has left me.
I will never forget seeing them on the "And Justice for All" tour... watching the guy in front of me bang his head so hard that he literally shook a false tooth right out of his head. He spent a couple songs crawling around on the floor looking for it... found it... jammed it back in and commenced headbangin some more. It was awesome!

Oh... and Cliff Burton on Bass

My buddy told me Cliff Burton was the bassist.

Mustaine and Burton are correct! No one's come forward with the album name yet . . . which probably isn't a bad thing.
Of course Mustaine was kicked out of the band and started Megadeth. Burton was tragically killed when Metallica's tour bus crashed in Europe.
Burton was replaced by Jason Newsted from Flotsam and Jetsam. Newsted played with Metallica from 'Garage Band Re-Revisited' and 'And Justice for All . . .' (I think) through whatever was just before 'St. Anger.' 'Re:Load?' I think that's right. Too proud to Google it.
I jumped off the train soon after the Black Album, but I still love hearing their old stuff. Wondering if I have 'Crash Course in Brain Surgery' in iTunes . . . Off to search for it!

First album - [edited for the sake of the children. but he was quite correct!]
Oh, and ReLoad was Newsted's last album of original studio material, but he stayed on through "Garage Inc." His last official outing was the cheesy live album, "S&M."
Btw, if you haven't seen "Some Kind of Monster," do so ASAP. There's a scene where Lars sits down with Mustaine -- it's a revelation.
